Think Multidimensionally and Write Better MDX

Abstract

Writing MDX can be daunting, especially for technologists experienced in writing queries against relational databases.  This presentation will demonstrate a methodical thought pattern for "seeing" the multidimensional lattice in SQL Server Analysis Services, culminating in several statements to encapsulate these thoughts.  Thereafter, some very simple MDX will be written to demonstrate how to use these concepts and statements.
